Weight Loss Surgery
Weight loss surgery is the most effective treatment for obesity. It achieves average total weight loss of around 30%. For example, if your weight now is 18 stone, we expect it to be around 13 stone after bariatric surgery.
Bariatric (Weight Loss) surgery is undertaken as a keyhole (laparoscopic) procedure. This means that in addition to achieving excellent weight loss, the recovery is quick (most patients stay in the hospital 1 or 2 nights only), the pain is minimal and the risk of post surgical hernias is reduced.
The surgery itself has a low risk of complications. The surgery is safer than many other operations that are performed routinely.
Bariatric surgery requires good preparation before surgery and lifelong commitment to dietary changes, taking vitamins daily, having regular blood tests and attending follow up appointments.
All Mr Toumi’s bariatric patients get seen by a bariatric dietitian before and after the surgery. Most Mr Toumi’s patients get seen by a bariatric psychologist before surgery.
The weight loss surgery procedures that Mr Toumi offers are:
Sleeve gastrectomy (Gastric Sleeve)
Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty (ESG)
Type 2 Diabetes
Bariatric surgery is the most effective treatment for Type 2 Diabetes. Many patients affected by type 2 diabetes and obesity have their diabetes cured or at least their diabetes medications reduced significantly after bariatric surgery. While some of the effects of bariatric surgery on diabetes are related to weight loss, some of the important effects are independent of weight loss. This is why many patients affected by type 2 diabetes, have their medications stopped before leaving the hospital after bariatric surgery.
