Anti-reflux surgery
  • Heartburn is a very common symptom. It is usually caused by reflux of acid from the stomach to the gullet – oesophagus. Surgery is very effective for reflux disease. 5 in every 6 patients who have surgery do not require antacid medications after the surgery.

  • Surgery for reflux disease involves repairing any hiatus hernia that is present and wrapping the upper part of the stomach around the lower part of the gullet. These two steps help to reduce or eliminate the reflux of acid into the gullet.

  • Anti-Reflux surgery has a low risk of complications.
